More energy efficiency can be achieved with better policymaking

Case studies in seven European countries have identified why society is slow in embracing energy efficiency. A new tool to identify its barriers and evaluate their impact will help policymakers overcome this challenge.

Energy efficiency in the building and transport sectors has become a key priority for economies around the world, particularly in the face of climatic and environmental pressures. While Europe is leading efforts in this respect by designing policies that encourage energy efficiency in these two sectors, there are many barriers – from lack of funds to fear of technology – that compromise the adoption of these policies.
