An EU-funded initiative developed a safer way to estimate human age from the bones and teeth of adolescents.
Medical images of teeth and bones can be used for reliable bone age estimation. In the past, X-rays (2D) as well as computed tomography images (3D) were used to estimate age. Unfortunately, these methods are associated with radiation exposure, which is particularly bad for young people.
