Polaritons are well on their way to break into the world of optoelectronics thanks to their unusual properties. EU-funded scientists worked to manipulate the spin of these quasi particles to formulate practical guidelines for experimental realisation.
Strong light-matter interactions in semiconductor microcavities give birth to polaritons. These half-light half-matter quasiparticles can condense into a single macroscopically populated quantum state similar to a Bose-Einstein condensate of cold atoms and display collective quantum behaviour.
