Europe has already demonstrated several hydrogen powered fuel cell materials handling vehicles and aims to extend it to more than 200 within the HYLIFT-EUROPE project. This will be one of the largest European demonstrations of such vehicles and the world's first large-scale demonstration of hydrogen-powered airport tow tractors.
Early market applications such as products for materials handling, back-up power and portable power applications play a key role in accelerating the market introduction of cost-effective fuel cell and hydrogen (FCH) technologies. Introducing products capable of entering the market in the short term is particularly important to further decrease costs of FCH technologies. The first step towards providing a near-to-market FCH deployment was the HYLIFT-DEMO project under the FCH Joint Undertaking Programme.
