Unlike the nerves in the central nervous system, peripheral nerves have the capacity to regenerate. This capacity can be greatly enhanced through biocompatible miniature scaffolds based on soluble carbon nanotubes (CNTs).
Peripheral nerve lesions resulting from tissue damage to the neuromuscular system due to disease or trauma render them unable to transmit signals to the muscles. Finding a way to repair extensive peripheral nerve lesions remains a subject of intense research.
