Each year, more than 50 000 people are diagnosed with Parkinson's disease in Europe. An EU project is looking to treat this disease by using a device to stimulate patients' brains
Parkinson's is conventionally treated with medication, but these medications have side-effects and become less effective over time. A more advanced method to treat this disease is by stimulating neurons in the brain with implanted electrodes. The challenge is that the stimulation must be accurate and isolated to certain parts of the brain.
