We often think about livestock as a source of animal protein, meat, milk and wool, but actually what they produce the most is dung. MICROARCHAEODUNG established that animal faeces can serve as an important source of environmental and cultural information in archaeological sites.
Livestock dung is exploited worldwide as a source of fertiliser, fuel, temper and building material. At the same time, dung constitutes an interdisciplinary area of research as it provides valuable information on a wide range of social, cultural, environmental and ecological issues.
