In 2014, the Technical University of Denmark founded OCTLIGHT, a spinout led by engineers and entrepreneurs willing to enable early diagnosis of eye diseases. The company has now completed a feasibility study to use its technology for high-fidelity 3D imaging, thanks to funding under the SME Instrument.
OCTLIGHT was built around optical coherence tomography (OCT), a technology that enables cross-sectional imaging of the eye. Combining this technology with appropriate medication has already reduced the number of age-related macular degeneration (AMD) patients who turn blind by 50 %. And we have only scratched the surface of its potential.
