With a shrinking working force yet increasing demand for healthcare by a growing elderly population, Europe needs more cost-effective health systems. To achieve this, policymakers need information on what type of community care offers the best outcomes at reasonable costs.
IBENC (Identifying best practices for care-dependent elderly by benchmarking costs and outcomes of community care) researchers established a method to identify and enable an in-depth interpretation of best performing practices in community care organisations for dependent elderly. Their approach produced from a novel benchmark method, accounting for both costs of care utilisation and quality of care. They also described characteristics of well performing organisations and their staff.
